HBS has had a long-standing relationship with SRL for many years across the UK, so when HBS (Scotland) were tendering for two large framework agreements, there was only one partner they could trust.

Scottish Water (South) framework agreement

HBS is a well-known and respected company who have positioned themselves as one of the largest traffic management contractors in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Offering a wealth of experience and innovation, with a ‘right first time’ approach, they were delighted to have won the framework agreement for the traffic management of Scottish Water’s southern area, for all their planned and emergency works. In one of their largest contracts to date, SRL’s innovative traffic signal systems were a key component.

Bryan Hosier, Head of Operations at HBS explains, “We’ve got 70 of SRL’s traffic signals just delivered to site, which is a significant order for us. The specification of SRL’s signals were instrumental in helping us to win the framework agreement and to deliver the potential 8-year contract.”

Multiphase Adaptive Detection System (ADS)

SRL’s systems are tried and trusted and easy to use, so they provide HBS with the peace of mind on a contract like this. The most significant requirement was the availability of SRL’s innovative multiphase adaptive detection (ADS) system. Intelligent and adaptive, the system can manage daily traffic flows by making automatic adjustments of green times and helps to reduce congestion by over 50%.

Bryan Hosier said, “SRL’s ADS system was a huge advantage for us during the tender stage. Fully portable and flexible for our needs, the reactive, intelligent traffic light technology is 50% more efficient than standard signals. All 70 of SRL’s traffic signals for the Scottish Water contract are ADS enabled.”

Responsive support

As well as the trusted technology, SRL were able to provide the rapid response required for this contract. Bryan Hosier continues, “We are committed to a two-hour support response for all their planned and emergency works. It was a major advantage that SRL has complete UK coverage, including depots across Scotland and 24/7 support. This put SRL head and shoulders above the competition.”

Morrison Telecom Services

Riding high, HBS Scotland recently won another major contract with Morrison Telecom Services as part of the BT’s R100 broadband programme. HBS Scotland once again turned to SRL as their technology partner to support their winning tender. Bryan Hosier said, “This four-year contract is about to be launched and we will initially need 20 SRL traffic signals. There was no requirement for ADS in this specification but we wanted the technology anyway, it’s a great innovation and it will make our lives easier and help towards an efficient running project.”
