Construction

VMS are used on large construction sites in a range of applications from the management of pedestrians and vehicles to the promotion of risk reduction strategies (like no smoking warnings or speed limits for moving vehicles) and the communication of occupational safety information (what protective equipment should be worn in which areas of the site for example). The overall impact being to improve site safety and ensure the project progresses as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

Quarries

Nowhere is bold, clear messaging more important than in the safe management of heavy vehicles on quarry sites, where the physical conditions and weather can create additional hazards. By illuminating routes and reminding vehicle drivers of the risks and rules in operation on site, VMS can help minimise the risk of injury to both site workers and pedestrians.

Airports and Seaports

These vital commercial hubs experience a significant throughput of goods, vehicles and people on a daily basis, so it’s important they’re kept moving. As volumes vary both throughout the day and day-to-day, so the VMS employed must be able to be instantly and remotely updated. In addition to helping manage traffic in the immediate vicinity, VMS are also an intelligent way to keep port users up-to-date with local traffic information for their onward journeys.

Our Smart High Speed Messenger VMS with active display dimensions of 2.4m (80 pixels) x 1.44m (48 pixels) has a flexible, easy-to-use sign management system that enables messages to be updated quickly and easily.

That’s why it was the ideal choice for the organisers of the London Marathon 2021.

With nearly 40,000 participants and thousands of spectators expected to attend, the organisers of the London Marathon 2021 needed good communications and clear information to manage their safe movement. 20 of our Smart High Speed Messengers were deployed in St James’s Park at the assembly area to help signpost runners to to the appropriate coloured starting points.

Tunnels and bridges

These critical points in the road network deserve a special mention as they represent additional hazards to road users – poor light and exposure to the elements respectively - and their physical structure also means any incident that occurs can be more complicated to resolve than on a standard road or motorway.

High impact signs at the approach to and regular intervals along a tunnel or bridge can help prevent or lessen the impact of incidents at these pinch points.

Public health messaging

SRL’s VMS were also put to use in 2020 as Covid-19 took hold, communicating important public health messaging in the midlands.
