So, we are thrilled to welcome Iain McDonald to the role of Business Development Director, responsible for ensuring local authorities, principal contractors, and traffic management companies across the UK and Republic of Ireland are not only aware of our products but understand how easy they are to integrate with their existing systems, and the significant financial, strategic, and logistical benefits they offer.

A highly regarded figure within the industry and an electrician by trade, Iain began his career installing permanent traffic systems for what is now Siemens. He soon progressed, training as an electronic and then commissioning engineer before moving to Peek Traffic as senior engineer. He travelled extensively for Peek, working in Southeast Asia and South America integrating its permanent traffic light products with local Urban Traffic Management and Control (UTMC) systems. On returning to the UK, he worked in a variety of business management and operational roles, building relationships with local authorities and a vast network of contacts throughout the industry.

It’s this combination of technical experience, industry knowledge and natural ability to develop relationships that makes Iain such an asset to the SRL team.

Iain sees communication and education as being at the heart of his ability to develop new relationships and generate income for SRL, but believes the challenge is made easier by the strength of its portfolio. He explains:

‘SRL’s innovative products offer a range of features and benefits. But crucially, we also offer a solution-based approach supported by outstanding service that extends far beyond the competition and makes a significant impact on site. My team’s job is to make sure local authorities, the end users of SRL’s products and solutions, know what they could and should be asking for when they’re considering scheme applications. That knowledge could make the difference between a poorly managed, unpopular scheme or one that gets the job done quickly and seamlessly.’

Iain who joined in February currently has a team of three supporting him which he is already in the process of expanding.

When he’s not immersed in all things traffic management, Iain likes to blow his own trumpet…. well cornet actually! He plays it in the Leicestershire Co-operative Brass band of which he is also chairman.
