SRL Solar PLUS – Sustainable Traffic Management

Years of detailed research and development into traffic management solutions culminated in the launch of SRL Solar PLUS® in early 2023. And it’s fair to say we’ve been delighted by the market’s response so far. There are already over 800 solar-powered portable traffic signals manufactured and in use on the roads in the UK and Ireland, and that’s not including our temporary solar solution.

Solar/Hybrid Portfolio

SRL Solar PLUS is not just a solution for traffic management - our entire portable product portfolio is eligible for solar/hybrid upgrades.  SRL Solar PLUS can also be used on our temporary UTMC and our portable CCTV cameras – the beauty of our uniform fleet boxes. SRL Solar PLUS simply replaces the existing, traditional box lid, and can be retrofitted to any product, meaning even purchased equipment can benefit from solar.

Extending the battery exchange cycle time for these products, especially CCTV, has been incredibly beneficial for events, enhancing reliability. With the inclusion of SRL Solar PLUS, our upgraded portable CCTV boasts a minimum battery life of one month, and users can expect even better results in summer. 

Award Winning Solar Solutions

In October, SRL’s Haul Route PLUS was recognised with a superb win in the Product of the Year category at the Highways Awards. The solution incorporates our dual-aspect solar temporary signals (SRL Solar PLUS and an additional overhead panel), security barriers, CCTV and VMS to support safety in construction schemes. The inception of solar technology reduces the frequency of battery exchanges from a weekly occurrence to an annual occurrence. A phenomenal saving, with huge cost savings and a reduction in carbon emissions.

Like many of our traffic management customers, we see that most of our carbon emissions stem from our fleet and the constant pressure of battery exchanges. Investing in solar technology has the potential to transform the way we work and help us strive towards carbon neutrality.
