About the Role

The Primary role of a Yard Operative is to take ownership of the safe operation of our yard, the housekeeping of our workshops and the availability of our equipment. To meet objectives and targets set by the Depot Manager.

A mobile phone and PPE will be provided. Hours of work per week will be 42.5. Very little overtime expected. Shift pattern: 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure that all works conducted within our depots are undertaken with the full regard for the safety of yourself, your colleagues, and our clients, whilst ensuring all areas are always maintained to the highest standards of housekeeping.
  • Ensure that all works conducted within our depots are undertaken with the full regard for the environment, with the aim of preventing or minimising any pollution incidents.
  • Follow all company health and safety procedures, whilst being alert and able to identify potential hazards to ensure these risks are either removed or the hazard minimized to an acceptable level of risk.
  • Supporting a “Don’t walk by” culture by Reporting, near misses, with an aim of preventing these instances developing into a potential accident.
  • Read, sign, and comply with all company toolbox talks, risk assessments, method statements and COSHH assessments.
  • Whilst attending client’s sites, conduct yourself in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Whilst clients are visiting our depots, they support them and your colleague in achieving their requirements.
  • Responsible for building and maintaining professional working Relationships with your colleagues in all departments.
  • Responsible for the security of the depot COSH cabinet and the products within it
  • Responsible for managing the depot batteries stock levels, to ensure all forecasted work is achieved.
  • Responsible for embedding and monitoring the use of our company’s red and green tagging process to ensure the serviceability status of all equipment within the depot is clear to all.
  • Responsible for ensuring we fully utilise our depot equipment by completing minor red tag repairs, and cleanliness checks. Where repairs are not possible within the depot, make the appropriate arrangement for this equipment to be returned to our Technical or Manufacturing teams.
  • Responsible for completing and managing the off-hire process within the yard / Workshop meaning you must notify the depot supervisor/manager of any damages as soon as you see them.
  • Responsible for making sure that all lights have a Check control form with them (CCF) also making sure that you sign your system check off forms.
  • Responsible for all SRL products that leave the yard / workshop and that they look the best.
  • Responsible for completing the daily quick count reports to ensure we have a clear understanding of our national stock levels.
  • Responsible for completing the monthly depot stock count, to ensure we maintain accurate financial stock reports within our depots.
  • Responsible for the yard area keeping it clean and tidy also making sure no vegetation is allowed to grow within our boundaries.
  • Responsible for ensuring we manage our depot spares and notify the depot supervisor/manager when we reach our minimum stock levels to help ensure replacement spares are ordered.
  • Responsible for recording a serviceability video of the pretested equipment prior to deploying the equipment onsite.
  • You always represent the companies’ best interests, by presenting themselves in a smart and professional manner.
  • Responsible for supporting our training team in the development of yourself to ensure you can undertake the duties expected of them both safely and professionally.
  • To perform other appropriate duties as assigned by the line manager.

Key Skills

Essential:

  • The ability to effectively influence onsite work activities.
  • The ability to work alone and as part of a team.
  • IT Literacy – especially Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Full driving license – No more than XXX points (Mandatory).
  • Resourceful, and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to deliver an excellent customer experience both internally and externally.
  • A person who takes the safety of themselves and others as their number 1 priority.

Desirable:

  • Basic electrical safety / Battery charging.
  • Worked within a Highways environment.
  • A basic knowledge of traffic light equipment.
  • CSCS card holder.
  • Competent in driving a company van and pickups up to 3.5 Ton in size.
  • Competent in the towing of a trailer with plant equipment loaded.

Qualifications:

  • GCSEs in English and Mathematics.
  • City and Guilds, qualification or equivalent in highways installations.
  • Sector 8 Accreditation, Health, and Safety qualifications, including NRSWA, G39, and
  • ECS).
