How Does Multiphase ADS Work?

Multiphase ADS connects a high-precision radar detector, which gathers real-time data on traffic volumes and speeds at the roadside, to temporary traffic lights. This data is then analysed by a sophisticated algorithm that dynamically adjusts green times to optimize traffic flow.

The busier the road, the more valuable this unique technology becomes, including taking in factors for site-specific conditions like HGV lag.

SRL’s Multiphase ADS is particularly effective in managing tidal traffic flow, reducing congestion for vehicles moving in one direction. As peak traffic subsides, the system adapts green times to reflect quieter conditions, ensuring smooth, efficient traffic management.

SRL Multiphase ADS achieves a remarkable 50% reduction in average queue length and a 29% decrease in maximum queue length. This leads to less congestion at busy roadworks, allowing traffic to flow more smoothly. With fewer delays, drivers benefit from a more efficient experience on the road. This enhancement not only improves travel times but also reduces frustration for motorists navigating high-traffic areas, contributing to a better overall driving environment.

The implementation of Multiphase ADS results in a significant 22% reduction in average journey times at critical junctions. During peak traffic hours, Multiphase ADS delivers an impressive 40% reduction in average journey times peak flows (between 08.40 and 09.00 across all routes), while routes with the highest flow of traffic experience a staggering 52% reduction in travel time.
