Overview
To address safety concerns at the Old Street Roundabout in London, including frequent collisions involving cyclists and pedestrians, Transport for London (TfL) sought a transformation project introduced a two-way signal-controlled layout, cycle-only signals, and expanded pedestrian crossings. SRL's Urban64 system was chosen to be the ideal temporary traffic solution during this high-profile redevelopment, thus supporting the creation of safer pathways and enhanced public spaces.
The Challenge
TGL initially chose SRL Traffic Systems because of their commitment to their hire division. They were the only manufacturer with a hire division and service commitment to offer 24/7 product support.

In the early days when we didn’t have a big team, SRL were able to support us with a battery change and maintenance service which massively helped us provide our customers with that support, until we built up our own in-house support.”
The Solution
With 30 depots across the UK and Ireland SRL is able to provide a fast, efficient response and wide coverage to support customers. For TGL, this availability and depot selection around London was of great importance.
Matt said, “SRL’s depot selection has been very good for us and we are well served in London with their depots in Romford, East Grinsted and Radlett. We have always felt very supported by SRL’s availability and responsiveness, so we’ve never had to look elsewhere, it’s not been a consideration.”
