In the Excellence in Technology & Innovation category, our pioneering solutions SRL Solar PLUS and Haul Route PLUS caught the attention of the judges and were shortlisted for the award. These sustainable innovations represent our commitment to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in transportation technology.
Both solutions benefit from solar-powered signals, greatly reducing the frequency of battery exchanges – providing a fit and forget solution that saves users time, money and resource, whilst also improving health and safety standards.
Urban64® | M8, Junction 25A
But that’s not all! SRL have also been shortlisted in the Most Effective Road Safety, Traffic Management & Enforcement award, for our Urban64 project – M8 Junction 25a. This nomination underscores our dedication to creating safer roads and more efficient traffic management systems for everyone.
Working in partnership with SWARCO and Renfrewshire Council, SRL provided Urban64® whilst vital signal refurbishments were completed. M8 Junction 25a connects Glasgow to Edinburgh and is the throughput for Braehead retail outlet. The outlet boasts a catchment of 2.2m and a footfall of 17 million/year. The secondary impact of ill-planned remedial roadworks on this junction was huge, with vast economic, health & safety, and environmental benefits, so it was vital to get this scheme right.
The successful deployment of Urban64 enabled the existing road layout to remain, with no lane restrictions, reduced cycle time through use of walk-with-pedestrian movement and enhanced detection capability over portables and existing junction.
This was a well-executed project with careful consideration of potential impacts. Scott Hannah, Traffic Technician at Renfrewshire Council, commented:
“Urban64 is a game changer. The main benefits for this project were, the ability to mimic the operation of the junction, the ability to retain the facility of our right turn/left turn arrows on and off the motorway, the omnipresent issue of lane closures was removed. This allowed us to keep traffic flowing freely.”
The Scottish Transport Awards
The Scottish Transport Awards is an annual event that celebrates excellence and innovation in the transportation sector within Scotland. The awards cover a wide range of categories, such as innovation, sustainability, road safety, customer service, and infrastructure development.
Supported by the Scottish Government, Transport Scotland, Network Rail, The Railway Industry Association and CPT Scotland, the 21st Annual Scottish Transport Awards will take place at the Glasgow Marriott Hotel in Glasgow on 20th June 2024.
