Could you elaborate on the initial consultation and site survey process?
During the initial consultation, we discuss the event’s scope, location, and expected traffic volumes. We work with the events traffic and conduct a thorough site survey to assess the area’s traffic flow and determine the best locations for our equipment.
What types of equipment does SRL provide for managing traffic at large events like festivals?
We offer a range of equipment to suit different traffic management needs. Our variable message signs (VMS) are used to provide real-time information to drivers, such as directions, parking updates, and safety messages. We also deploy CCTV systems for monitoring and managing traffic in real-time, allowing for quick responses to any issues that arise. We can also integrate ANPR cameras, portable traffic signals and security barriers to restrict access.
We’ve also developed more niche solutions, such as specialised trackers and software to support bus operation at large events. In the case of Glastonbury, bus and coach operation is the largest in the country, so anything we can do to help improve communication and seamless traffic flow, is highly beneficial.

Effective implementation is key to a successful event traffic management plan. We conduct regular checks and adjustments as needed to ensure everything runs smoothly. Additionally, we can provide 24/7 support to address any unforeseen issues promptly.
SRL can also offer event control support, monitoring our cameras and advising on developing traffic situations. We can then make agreed local authority message changes to our VMS. This hands-on approach helps us adapt to changing conditions throughout the event.
Finally, with the dynamic nature of large events, how does SRL handle unexpected changes or emergencies?
Flexibility and responsiveness are crucial in managing large events. Our experienced team is trained to handle unexpected changes and emergencies efficiently, and our products are sophisticated, robust and reliable to minimise the likelihood of any technical issues. Our on-site team can adjust and provide support as necessary, such as re-routing traffic with signage updates or movement.
We recently supported an event which was affected by a nearby accident and fuel spillage on the major route. SRL reacted dynamically , moving VMS signage and displaying appropriate warning messages. We can also use out VMS to counter traffic situations, ie. deter drivers from following SatNav instructions if they’re causing delays.
